I just been pointed in the direction of this headline from the Independent by a friend :
independentafter a very brief google search I found many similar articles:
tbo.comfindarticles.comPeople need to get with it? Are there really that many students complaining? If they are the answers are simple: The government have been making it more easy for anyone to afford to go to university, regardless of background and to a certain extent, level of education. Universities are just another business sector at the end of the day. That means they will introduce more and more ’simple’ courses to cater to the less academic so they can rake in more and more tuition fees. (which i think are around £3000 per head, a year currently, MINIMUM).
Inevitably, the more graduates there are running around, the less impressive a degree becomes!
The percentage of students that actually care however is probably quite low.
People go to university to move out of home effectively for free. And earn the valuable life experience that goes with living on your own.
University is the guaranteed 3 year holiday before you have to conform and get a job.
On the subject of social conforming: Many teenagers go to university for this exact reason. They don’t know any better; Its what every teenager does in England in the 21st century. Every kid from the upper working class right up through the rest of the classes do it.
While at university i did a lot of things that made the - £20′000 seem worthwhile. Some of them i can mention on here, some of them i can’t and hence i just wont mention any.
